I read recently that when you look (at anything), so much visual information exists that your brain discards most of it without your ever realizing. This is fascinating to me because it’s essentially like we (humans) have a filter that is extremely practical for living in the contemporary internetic age. In the current era, advertisers and content producers clamor for attention, seeking to attract you by any means necessary, without regard to the external costs. I personally find the approach stupid, but I can only determine that such a behavior is basically the dark side of capitalism (actually, slavery is probably the dark side of capitalism. I am merely describing a lesser bad aspect). Anyway, amid this current information landscape, attracting attention is far more competitive — particularly amid “AI.”
In order to find what you’re seeking, you firstly need to define it clearly and then disregard unrelated information. This latter element is the more difficult part. We live during a time in which folks are deliberately trying to distract you, as it can be lucrative for them. But what good does that do you?
And, like, what are my motivations for saying this? I feel motivated to say something because I still remember a time when businesses did not attempt to scam customers first and foremost. Moreover, I think that was a far better approach. I am sincerely surprised at how many scams exist. I believe that someday this time will be remembered as an era of scams — hopefully. Either that or the scams only get worse and are perceived as “normal.”
Back to the original point, ya gotta stay focused on your goal, cuz there’s a chorus of advertisers waiting to distract you. The distractions are like fractals: there’s no end. Zooming in only shows you another level, at which point you can zoom in and see another level. I like the idea behind ads. I like the idea of introducing potentially interested audiences to useful new ideas. However, advertisers often — too often — use advertisements to disrupt and seduce audiences. I see no value in that — only deception.
Rather than going along with whatever is served, it is extremely important to retain your own personal initiative. It can be hard whenever folks are distracting you incessantly and making false promises, but avoiding these distractions is one of the most important things you can do right now.
